Exhibit Explorer for Thunder Bay Museum
For my sixth semester work placement, I worked at the Confederation College Applied Research Office working on multiple projects for local businesses in Thunder Bay. One was the Thunder Bay Museum, which was looking for interactive options for some of its exhibits.
The goal was to create something that could be used to show children visiting the museum how certain objects functioned in real life. For that purpose, I worked with my teaching advisor and another student to create two short browser-based games that museum guests could access using a QR Code and play on their mobile devices.
The below links currently connect to versions of the games hosted on my own account with permission from the Thunder Bay Museum. They will be replaced with links to the museum's hosted versions once they become available.
Put Out the Fire!
This game was made to showcase how an old waterpump was used to put out fires. Players must alternate pressing each side of the pump to spray water until the fire goes out. The newspaper at the end includes details from an actual Port Arthur newspaper provided by the museum to give the game some real historical context.
PLAY HERE!Velocipede Venture!
This game was made to showcase how a velocipede would travel along train tracks. Players must drag the handle back and forth to make the velocipede travel from the Port Arthur station to the Fort William station. The artwork of the two stations are based on photographs of the original railway stations, although the train route between them was greatly simplified.
PLAY HERE!I was responsible for designing the layout of the games and creating the Exhibit Explorers logo, and I created the games using PixiJS with some help from our teaching advisor, Orion Atkinson. My classmate Carson Forsythe created the artwork for both games using my rough designs as a base.
